PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Toro Families,

Thank you for your support during last week’s Teacher Appreciation Week; it truly means a lot to our educators! This week, we have several workshops lined up, so be sure to check the newsletter for all the details. Our third-grade students will also be wrapping up their End-of-Year testing, and we wish them the best of luck.

Looking ahead, we are excited about our upcoming music events featuring our Violin Club and 3rd to 5th-grade students.

Upcoming Events & Important Information

  • End of Year Assessments: 3rd grade students will take the Math assessment on May 12th, 13th, and 15th. Please ensure your child is well-rested, attends school, and has a healthy breakfast on these days to help them perform their best.
  • Webinar Alert: AI & Social Media's Impact on Mental Health: Join us on May 14, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. CT to learn about protecting your well-being in the digital age. Scan the QR code to register. The session will be recorded and available at MagellanAscend.com.
  • Parent Workshop – Digital Parenting: Join us for a free workshop hosted by the Military Family Life Counselors on May 14th and 15th in the school library. A Spanish session will be available. Please RSVP by May 13th at 3 p.m. to Ms. Bridget at simpsonb@magellanfederal.com or Mr. Walter at wilchespovedag@magellanfederal.com.
  • R.I.S.E. (Rota Ignites Spouse Enrichment): Participate in this event on May 16, 2025, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Chapel. The morning will feature interactive learning sessions and the afternoon will have an expo focusing on various personal and professional development topics.
  • Spring Music Events: Join us for performances in the Multipurpose Building (MPB): Violin Club on May 19th at 3:30 p.m.; 4th Grade Spring Concert on May 20th at 8:20 a.m.; 5th Grade Concert on May 21st at 8:20 p.m.; and 3rd Grade Performance on May 22nd at 8:20 p.m.
  • PCSing Student Records: If your family is transferring to a new location, please notify the front office as soon as possible to prepare your child's student records. Once we receive your notification, records will be available for pickup on your child's last official day of school. Thank you for your cooperation in ensuring a smooth transition!

Community News

  • EDIS Summer Camp is Coming Soon! Get ready for fun at EDIS Summer Camp from August 11-14, 2025, at DGF Elementary! There are two sessions: one for 3-5 year olds (8:30-9:30 AM) and another for grades 1-8 (10:00 AM-12:15 PM), split into groups for grades 1-3, 4-5, and 6-8. Enjoy gross motor games, fine motor activities, handwriting fundamentals, and mental health resiliency tools. Children with IEPs are given priority. Call EDIS at 727-4029 or 956-82-4928 to register!
  • Get Support from Military Family Life Counselors (MFLCs)! We have skilled Military Family Life Counselors available to assist military-connected students and families with confidential, non-medical counseling on a variety of topics. If you're interested in learning more about MFLC services or wish to connect with a counselor, please visit the school office or reach out to Bridgette at 624-905-904, or Walter at 641-482-865. Remember, students seeking support must have a permission form on file. For details about the services and permission form, please check the attached document.

Club Information

  • Intro to Drama Club! The Drama Club holds meetings on May 8th, 15th, 22nd, and 29th. The Drama Club meets from 2:45 to 3:45 p.m.
  • Lego League STEM Club: The Lego Club meets on May 6th, May 13th, May 27th, and June 3rd from 2:45 to 3:45 p.m. Students can meet the club sponsor, Mr. Beckley, by the main office right after dismissal. Join us for creativity and fun!
  • The DGF Garden Club: The Garden Club holds meetings for1st graders on Tuesdays from 2:45 to 3:30 PM, from April 7 to May 9, while 2nd graders will meet on Fridays. For any questions, please contact the club sponsor, Ms. Kimlicka, at Jean.Kimlicka@dodea.edu.

•Health Reminder for Parents. To maintain a healthy school environment, please keep your child at home if they exhibit any symptoms such as fever (100°F or higher), new rashes with fever, vomiting, diarrhea, draining skin sores, worsening respiratory symptoms, eye redness with discharge, or general unwellness. Your cooperation is essential in preventing the spread of illness. For questions, contact the school nurse.

  • Celebrate Spirit Fridays! Get ready for Spirit Fridays at Rota Elementary! Every Friday, students can show their school pride by wearing blue. All participants will be acknowledged, and the class with the highest percentage of students in blue will earn special recognition from the PTSA. DoDEA School Dress Code

Students MUST wear:

  • Tops with sleeves (sleeveless tops/dresses are permitted for school sponsored formal events such as prom)
  • Solid clothing (not transparent or translucent) that fully covers the top and bottom from armpit to mid-thigh
  • Shoes (shoes must be safe for the school environment)
    • Bedroom slippers shall not be worn, except for school activities approved by the principal
    • Open toe shoes with a strap across the heel are allowed

Students CANNOT wear clothing with:

  • Language or images promoting violence
  • Language or images that depict, promote, or advocate the illegal use or sale of drugs, alcohol or tobacco products; violent conduct; curse words; pornography; that contain threats or expressions which are violent, discriminatory, lewd or obscene; or that advocate or promote any other illegal item or activity or the use of same
  • Derogatory speech and/or imagery that targets groups based on race/color, ethnicity/national origin, sex, sexual orientation, disability, religion, or any other characteristic protected by law.
  • Headgear that obscures the face (except as a religious observance or health purpose); clothing items with hoods attached can be worn but must not cover the head

* Teachers/courses can require certain attire as part of the curriculum (for example: physical education, culinary) that may include specific dress

* DoDEA issued athletic uniforms and athletic practice attire outside of the DoDEA school dress code is permitted when worn by participants during athletic practices and sports events
