Toro Families,

Welcome back from spring break! As we enter April, I’m excited to announce that this month is dedicated to honoring the Month of the Military Child. It’s a meaningful opportunity for us to recognize and support our military-connected students.

 

We have a variety of events planned, and we invite your family to get involved. Your participation will make these activities more special, so be sure to check the details in this newsletter.

  • 🌟 Get Ready to Go Purple for Purple Up Day! 🌟 Mark your calendars for April 9th as we celebrate the Month of the Military Child! We encourage all students, staff, and parents to wear purple to show our support for our incredible military-connected kids. After the morning announcements, join us for a fantastic celebration in the elementary courtyard, featuring inspiring student speakers and fun activities for everyone—parents are welcome to join in the festivities too! The event will kick off at 8:30 a.m. in the Toro Courtyard, right in front of the elementary gym. Let’s come together to honor our military kids and make this day truly special! 💜
  • ☕️ Coffee with the Principal & PTSA Meeting! Join us for Coffee with the Principal and an open PTSA meeting on Thursday, April 10, at 8:30 a.m. in the Rota ES Library! Enjoy a cup of coffee while connecting with Mr. Kirk and the PTSA. The meeting will feature a Q&A session, an overview of events for the rest of the year, opportunities to volunteer, and a discussion about open PTSA board positions for next year. Everyone is welcome to attend, so come learn how you can make a positive difference in our school community! We hope to see you there! 🎉
  • 📸 School Photo Retakes Announcement! We are pleased to announce that school photo retakes will take place on Thursday, April 10th. Families can visit the Photo Services kiosk in the Rota NEX from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. This is a great opportunity for anyone who would like their child's photos redone. We look forward to seeing you there!
  • 🎉 MOMC Family Night Celebration! 🎉 Join us in celebrating the Month of the Military Child with an exciting Family Night on Wednesday, April 16th! We’d love to know how many of you are joining the festivities, so please register to let us know you're coming! Enjoy a FREE dinner served from 4:45 to 5:45 p.m., courtesy of our fantastic PTSA. Plus, by pre-registering, you’ll be entered into a raffle for some amazing prizes! Don’t miss an evening filled with delicious food, wonderful company, and special celebrations honoring our military kids. Wear your purple to show your support! 
  • Get ready for an evening of fun, food, dancing, and community with activities like a Purple Up Kid Dance for students in 1st-5th grade, a Purple Up! Play Zone for Pre-K and Kindergarten, parent workshops, and a special MWR Sponsored Show featuring the Disney Imagination Movers! 🎶 Connect with valuable community resources and let’s make this night unforgettable!

  • Get Support from Military Family Life Counselors (MFLCs)! We have skilled Military Family Life Counselors available to assist military-connected students and families with confidential, non-medical counseling on a variety of topics. If you're interested in learning more about MFLC services or wish to connect with a counselor, please visit the school office or reach out to Bridgette at 624-905-904, or Walter at 641-482-865. Remember, students seeking support must have a permission form on file. For details about the services and permission form, please check the attached document.

The attached flyer outlines the available options, including counseling services (MFLC, school counselors, IBHC), chaplain support, and emergency contacts.   • Join the EDIS Parent Support Group! Are you looking for ways to support your child's mental well-being? Join our EDIS monthly support group, held on the first Wednesday of every month from 8:15-9:30 AM in the EDIS Building Conference Room.   • 🌱 Garden Club Announcement! 🌱 We’re excited to announce that the Garden Club will kick off the week we return! 1st graders will meet on Tuesday, April 8th, and 2nd graders will gather on Thursday, April 10th. Students will meet at the picnic tables outside the gym at dismissal. Parents of participating students have already been informed of their child's involvement in the club.

•Health Reminder for Parents. To maintain a healthy school environment, please keep your child at home if they exhibit any symptoms such as fever (100°F or higher), new rashes with fever, vomiting, diarrhea, draining skin sores, worsening respiratory symptoms, eye redness with discharge, or general unwellness. Your cooperation is essential in preventing the spread of illness. For questions, contact the school nurse.

  • Celebrate Spirit Fridays! Get ready for Spirit Fridays at Rota Elementary! Every Friday, students can show their school pride by wearing blue. All participants will be acknowledged, and the class with the highest percentage of students in blue will earn special recognition from the PTSA. Let's come together to celebrate our school spirit every week!

DoDEA School Dress Code

Students MUST wear:

  • Tops with sleeves (sleeveless tops/dresses are permitted for school sponsored formal events such as prom)
  • Solid clothing (not transparent or translucent) that fully covers the top and bottom from armpit to mid-thigh
  • Shoes (shoes must be safe for the school environment)
    • Bedroom slippers shall not be worn, except for school activities approved by the principal
    • Open toe shoes with a strap across the heel are allowed

Students CANNOT wear clothing with:

  • Language or images promoting violence
  • Language or images that depict, promote, or advocate the illegal use or sale of drugs, alcohol or tobacco products; violent conduct; curse words; pornography; that contain threats or expressions which are violent, discriminatory, lewd or obscene; or that advocate or promote any other illegal item or activity or the use of same
  • Derogatory speech/imagery targeting groups based on race/color, ethnicity/national origin, sex, disability, religion, or any other characteristic protected by law
  • Headgear that obscures the face (except as a religious observance or health purpose); clothing items with hoods attached can be worn but must not cover the head

* Teachers/courses can require certain attire as part of the curriculum (for example: physical education, culinary) that may include specific dress

* DoDEA issued athletic uniforms and athletic practice attire outside of the DoDEA school dress code is permitted when worn by participants during athletic practices and sports events
