Toro Parents,

Welcome to an exciting week at Rota Elementary as we celebrate Red Ribbon Week 2024: "Life is a Movie!" This week is packed with engaging activities promoting a healthy, drug-free lifestyle, including themed dress-up days that allow students to showcase their creativity. We also look forward to the Character Book Parade on October 31st and the Enchanted Forest Book Fair starting October 28th. Enjoy the festivities and join us in fostering a fun, educational, and supportive school environment. Let's make it a spectacular week!

UPCOMING SCHOOL EVENTS!

  • Red Ribbon Week 2024: "Life is a Movie!" Join us for Red Ribbon Week, a fun-filled journey promoting a drug-free life! Participate in our exciting daily themes:
    • Monday: Dress Like a Movie Star
    • Tuesday: Mix & Match Your Clothes
    • Wednesday: Wear Red
    • Thursday: Dress Like a Book Character
    • Friday: Wear Blue or DGF Shirt

  • Character Book Parade On Thursday, October 31st at 8:30 a.m., all students will participate in a lively book parade around the school! Students are encouraged to come dressed as their favorite book characters. Parents are warmly invited to join us and enjoy this fun tradition celebrating literacy!
  • Enchanted Forest Book Fair! Join us for our Fall 2024 Scholastic Book Fair, October 28th - November 1st, in Room 81 (First Grade Hallway). Find books, STEM kits, journals, and more! Open 8 am - various closing times (see flyer for details). USD cash or card accepted. Free entry! All are welcome!
  • Turkey Trot Fun Run Is On! Get your kids registered for FREE today and help us reach our fundraising goal! The fun run takes place Friday, November 22nd. Register now: [insert shortened link here - https://getmovinfundhub.com/register. 
  • Flu Vaccine Clinics Coming Soon Flu vaccines will be available for all beneficiaries starting October 16th.  Vaccines will be available at the Navy Exchange (NEX) on October 16th and 17th, and at DGF School on November 7th and 8th.  For more information, please contact COMM: 956-82-3464 / DSN: 727-3464.

SCHOOL SUPPORTS & PROGRAMS

  • What is the AAPS Program? Our Advanced Academic Programs and Services (AAPS) provide a range of support and enrichment opportunities for students who demonstrate advanced academic abilities. The program identifies gifted learners, offers differentiated instruction, and provides resources to foster their potential. For more details on how AAPS can benefit your child, please see the attached flyer.
  • School Liaison Updates Please check the attachment to gather the most recent updates about our School Liaison Program. This program provides a variety of services and resources designed to support students, parents, school administrators, installation leadership, and the surrounding communities. It offers valuable information on local schools, graduation requirements, after-school programs, homeschooling, and more.

COUNSELING & SUPPORTS

  • Lemon Chat Our Military Family Life Counselors are offering small group sessions for students in grades 1-5. The program will run from September 2024 through June 2025. Contact Barbara Angstadt (641-482-865) or Roneiko Henderson (624-262-856) for more information.
  • Family Deployment Group Join us for the Family Deployment Support Group hosted by Military Family Life Counselors (MFLC) on the 3rd Thursday of every month from 2:50 PM to 4:00 PM in the DGF Elementary Library. Upcoming meetings will take place on October 17, November 14, and December 19, 2024. This is a great opportunity for families to connect and receive support during deployment times.   • Feeling Overwhelmed Supporting Your Child's Mental Health? Join our free, monthly support group! Learn practical strategies, discover helpful resources, and find ways to manage your own stress while supporting your child. The group meets the first Wednesday of each month from 8:15 to 9:30 in the EDIS Building Conference Room. Call 727-4029 to reserve your space.

  • Yearly & Monthly School Calendars

    Stay informed by reviewing the Rota ES annual calendar and this month’s calendar. Parents should be sure to check out the November calendar for upcoming events and activities.

  • School Hours

    Doors open at 7:50 a.m.; classes start at 8:05 a.m. Late arrivals must be signed in by a parent. Office hours: 7:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. daily. Contact: 856-82-0220 (off-base) or 682-0220 (DSN). Dismissal: 2:35 p.m. daily, 1:35 p.m. on Wednesdays. Please arrange childcare accordingly.
