Rota Elementary School students take part in outdoor games, including relay races, jump rope, obstacle courses, and soccer, during the Summer Kickoff Field Day aboard Naval Station Rota, Spain. The annual event promotes teamwork, physical activity, and school spirit before the start of summer break.

Under sunny skies and high spirits, Rota Elementary School students participated in games, laughter, and teamwork during the school’s annual Summer Kickoff Field Day.

Principal Kenneth Kirk opened the event with a morning ceremony that brought the school community together with volunteers from across Naval Station Rota. Students stood to recite the Pledge of Allegiance before diving into a full schedule of outdoor activities.

From relay races and jump rope to soccer, obstacle courses, and bubble stations, the day was packed with opportunities for fun and collaboration. The school mascot joined in the excitement, posing for photos with students and teachers.

Sailors assigned to Navy Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) Fleet Logistics Center Site Rota volunteered their time to support the event, helping to lead games and cheer on participants.

“This is more than just a fun day — it’s a celebration of teamwork and community,” said Kirk. “It’s a great way for students to close out the school year.”

The event, held annually, encourages cooperation and connection while giving students a constructive outlet for end-of-year energy.
