Rota Elementary lights up with discovery at annual STEAM Night
ROTA, Spain – Rota Elementary School recently transformed into a bustling hub of innovation and imagination as students, families, and community members gathered for a highly anticipated STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) Night. The campus-wide event offered an immersive experience, seamlessly blending academic learning with hands-on fun for all ages.
The heart of the evening was found in the school's hallways and classrooms, which were lined with impressive student science projects. These displays showcased the hard work, curiosity, and scientific methods of Rota’s young learners. Attendees were encouraged not just to observe, but to engage. Interactive, hands-on student activities were set up at stations throughout the school, allowing children to build, experiment, and test their own hypotheses. True to the "A" in STEAM, vibrant art displays and creative projects were integrated throughout the event, proving that imagination is a critical component of technical learning.
A major highlight of the evening was the strong presence of community base partners, who helped bring real-world STEAM applications to life. The USO was on-site providing invaluable support and energy to the crowd. Outside, the Fire Department gave students an up-close look at the technology and science behind fire safety and rescue operations. Excitement peaked at the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) station, where wide-eyed students had the rare opportunity to watch state-of-the-art EOD robots maneuver and operate. Meanwhile, the inflatable Star Lab offered a breathtaking, immersive journey through the cosmos, captivating aspiring astronomers and space enthusiasts.
The seamless execution of this massive event was organized and spearheaded by dedicated Rota Elementary teacher Ms. Bejar. Her vision for the night was brought to life through a massive collaborative effort. A dedicated team of fellow teachers, community members, and enthusiastic student volunteers worked tirelessly behind the scenes to run stations, guide families, and ensure the evening was a success.
"Our STEAM Night is a wonderful example of what happens when our school and community come together to inspire our students," said Rota Elementary Principal Mr. Ken Kirk. “Seeing the excitement on the children's faces as they learn and explore is what it’s all about.”
The event not only highlighted the incredible academic talents of the students but also reinforced the strong, supportive bond between the school and the surrounding base community. As families headed home, they left with sparked imaginations and a renewed excitement for the limitless possibilities of STEAM.
